Join us at Eagle River Brewing, a veteran-owned brewery in Gypsum, for an evening of award-winning beer, great food, and inspiring stories.

This night is all about shining a light on the incredible work of Military Working Dogs and how the Warrior Dog Foundation gives them the retirement they deserve after service.

Guests will also get the chance to meet retired Navy SEAL Chris Cappa and his partner MPC Miki, who served with SEAL Team 10. From explosive detection to night raids, Miki’s story offers a rare glimpse into the life of a SEAL dog and the unbreakable bond between handler and K9.

Former Navy SEALs, Chris Cappa and MPC K9 Miki

FORMER NAVY SEAL CHRIS CAPPA

Christopher M. Cappa, from Hartford, CT, embodies a unique journey as a former Navy SEAL. In a force where only 2% of all SEALs are African American, Christopher’s contributions stand out significantly.

Chris is renowned for his prowess in problem-solving, leadership, and communication. During his service, he specialized in breaching and handling Multi-Purpose Canines (MPCs) on deployments in Africa. His dedication led him to become the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Naval Special Warfare Group Multi-Purpose Canine Program. Notably, Chris courageously assumed the role of MPC Handler in Iraq following the tragic loss of a team member.

With a zest for life, he has transitioned into K9 advocacy. He has notably supported working K9s through the Warrior Dog Foundation’s “Home with Handlers” program, particularly championing retired K9 MPCs like his dog, Miki. Fortunately, Chris and Miki were able to stay together after retirement.

Beyond his military achievements, Chris boasts diverse skills in dog whelping and Thai Boxing instruction. He finds joy in mountain biking with his canine companions, Miki and Rogue, and actively engages in activities like lure coursing with Rogue.

MULTI-PURPOSE CANINE MIKI

Miki’s journey began in January 2018 at the age of 10 months, as he began his path to becoming an invaluable member of SEAL Team 10.

Within SEAL Team 10, Miki’s responsibilities were diverse. He’s trained to detect over 15 odors of explosive compounds, ensuring the safety of his team in hazardous environments. Additionally, equipped with a night vision camera system, Miki excels in direct action assistance, aiding in target assaults and person apprehensions.

Multi Purpose K9s, like Miki, play a crucial role within SEAL Teams, operating without muzzles, off-leash, and seamlessly integrating into high-stress environments. SEAL Dog handlers are held to the highest standards, ensuring proficiency in both K9 and human operations.

Miki’s legacy is one of unwavering dedication and service, embodying the ethos of SEAL Team 10 and leaving an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to serve alongside him. He has since retired with his handler, Chris Cappa.

How do we use the funds?

Thank you for your interest in the Warrior Dog Foundation. When you donate to our foundation the majority of your money goes directly to the care of our K9s to cover costs of food, shelter, physical and mental care and exercise and play. Our overhead costs range from 10 to 20% of our total budget. That means 80-90% of the funds we receive go directly to the care of our retired Warrior Dogs. IRS 990 forms for Warrior Dog Foundation are available on request, or can be viewed on Guidestar @ www.guidestar.org. We state a percentage range because historically WDF has had periods where it was managed by volunteers and/or paid employees, and more recently, by a combination of volunteers and paid professionals for services such as bookkeeping, legal assistance and Certified Public Accountants.
