In Memory Of
David W Morris
David began his journey as a K9 handler in 2005 with a natural ability to connect with dogs, understanding their instincts and personalities in a way few could. It wasn’t long before he was paired with his first K9 partner, Sabo, a loyal and skilled dog who would become not just a colleague but a trusted friend. Together, they formed a bond of mutual respect and understanding, a relationship that would define their career. He worked with several dogs throughout his career before retiring from Winter Haven Police Department and embarking on a career with explosion detection dogs, taking him overseas to Baghdad, Iraq before coming home stateside to work in Chicago.
But what truly set David apart was his love for the animals he worked with. He understood that every dog was unique, with their own strengths and challenges, and he treated each one with the utmost care and respect. It wasn’t uncommon for David to spend hours outside of work with his K9 partners, building trust and refining their skills. Many of the K9s that worked with David went on to become beloved family members who lived with him for their entire lives.
Beyond his career, David was known for his warm heart, his sense of humor, and the way they lit up any room he walked into. Whether at work or with family and friends, he had a way of making friends wherever he went. His love for his children and grandchildren knew no bounds, he swelled with pride at their accomplishments, rarely missing an opportunity to spend time with them or be on the sidelines of a little league game.
David may no longer be with us, but his impact will never be forgotten. He was dedicated in every sense of the word, not only to the community he served but also to the K9 partners he worked alongside and the many colleagues who were lucky enough to know him. His story is one of courage, compassion, and an unyielding commitment to making the world a safer place, and that is something we will always remember.

How do we use the funds?
Thank you for your interest in the Warrior Dog Foundation. When you donate to our foundation the majority of your money goes directly to the care of our K9s to cover costs of food, shelter, physical and mental care and exercise and play. Our overhead costs range from 10 to 20% of our total budget. That means 80-90% of the funds we receive go directly to the care of our retired Warrior Dogs. IRS 990 forms for Warrior Dog Foundation are available on request, or can be viewed on Guidestar @ www.guidestar.org. We state a percentage range because historically WDF has had periods where it was managed by volunteers and/or paid employees, and more recently, by a combination of volunteers and paid professionals for services such as bookkeeping, legal assistance and Certified Public Accountants.
