The Warrior Dog Foundation was created by Mike Ritland to fill a need unmet by most other MWD, CWD, K-9 adoption organizations. Specifically, WDF is the sanctuary of last resort and a place for retirement and even rehabilitation for Warrior K-9s slated to be euthanized. As a result, retired WDF K-9s often stay with us for many years, and some live out their lives with us.
If a Warrior K-9 adoption is possible, experienced K-9 handlers, veterans, law enforcement and individuals who have circumstances appropriate to care for them are considered as adoption candidates. In addition to the K-9 handling experience, WDF requires that a candidate must own the home they live in and can show that there are no code or homeowner association regulations restricting ownership of a K-9 and have a fenced yard. These retired K-9’s are not suitable for a home with children or other pets.
The Warrior Dog Foundation spends a significant amount of time and resources evaluating the circumstances and making sure the pairing of K-9 to a new handler/home is appropriate.
We value your support, both through donations and by helping others understand how these selfless heroes protect our military and law enforcement men and women every day. We honor those men and women whose lives were protected and saved, by caring for their retired K-9 working dogs.
